DURIP Success: Small Animal MRI

Equipment for developing a closed-loop implantable device for monitoring and treatment of TBI symptoms.

Aviad Hai, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, recently installed the new ONR DURIP funded small animal MRI in the lab.

Our technologies rely on reducing invasiveness and bulkiness of clinically implanted electrodes for stimulation and electrophysiological recordings, while at the same time providing MRI directed neuromodulation therapies. Some of our prototypes comprise cell-sized electronic circuits that sense electrophysiological and neurochemical biological markers at the injury site and affected regions, and provide therapeutics via in situ stimulation on the same device.
